Delta to Construct Eco-friendly Building for Earthquake-stricken Dazhai Junior High School in Yunnan, China
In the aftermath of the Ludian earthquake, Delta donated 5 million RMB for educational reconstruction projects that were planned by the Qiaojia County Education Bureau in Yunnan, China. Delta decided to assist Dazhai Junior High School in rebuilding a comfortable, safe and totally eco-friendly general education building for students and faculty to experience the benefits of green architecture and in promoting the concept of energy conservation. The signing ceremony for this reconstruction project took place on April 12th in Qiaojia County and it was signed by Vice Chairman of Delta Greentech (China) Jimmy Yin, Deputy Director-General of Qiaojia County Civil Affairs Bureau Kun Liu, Deputy Director-General of Qiaojia County Education Bureau Fasheng Ma, and the Deputy Minister for the United Front Work Department of Qiaojia County Dujiang Ran.
During the ceremony, Mr. Yin of Delta Greentech stated that Delta deeply values corporate social responsibility (CSR), actively participates in social welfare and continuously promotes green architecture. Delta has worked with partners to construct 22 green buildings over the past decade, including 2 green campus buildings: the “Delta Sunshine Elementary School at Yangjia Town” inaugurated in 2011 and the “Delta Sunshine Junior High School in Longmen Township” completed in 2015. Both of these campuses are in disaster areas affected by the 2008 Sichuan and 2013 Yaan earthquakes in China.
Delta utilized the first-prize winning proposal from the “Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition” to construct these campuses with a design to maintain excellent ventilation, and heat and sun blocking during the summer, and to keep the buildings warm in winter. Many energy-saving techniques are also applied in these green buildings, such as a central solar heating system for hot water, a heat buffer layer on roofs, as well as waterproof flooring and permeable pavements. The successful results can be found in the Delta Sunshine Elementary School at Yangjia Town. For instance, the buildings have adequate ventilation and are designed with natural lighting to allow indoor temperatures to be 1°C to 3°C cooler and to lower relative humidity by 10 to 30 percent. For the Delta Sunshine Junior High School in Longmen Township, its skylight windows design enhances the desk surface illumination of 92lux for classrooms on the highest floor, which is equal to a 30% reduction in daily lighting on average.
Through the experience of assisting post-disaster reconstruction and using a design concept created by the China Architecture Design and Research Group, Delta plans to build the Dazhai Junior High School general education building under stringent green architecture and earthquake resistance standards. In addition, the use of passive solar energy technologies will also be fully applied within this green building. Delta expects this environmentally-friendly education building to cultivate brilliant minds, enrich the teaching context and serve the purpose of “Building Harmony with Nature.”
At the ceremony, Mr. Chen Hong, the Secretary of the Qiaojia County Political and Legal Affairs Commission and Minister for the United Front Work Department of Qiaojia County complimented Delta for being a global high-tech company devoted to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Its 5 million RMB donation in response to China's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council call for post-Ludian earthquake reconstruction has brought this project into the focus of the Qiaojia County People's Government and Education Bureau. Mr. Chen says that local governments will speed up the construction progress with quality and safety. In addition, Mr. Liu Zhiming, Mayor of Dazhai township thanked Delta for showing great kindness and support for this earthquake-stricken area. The mayor believes the reconstructed Dazhai Junior High School will become a better institution with excellent infrastructure and improvements in teaching quality for younger generations.
Dazhai Junior High School is located at a distance of 51 km from Qiaojia township, on the right side of the Baihetan hydropower station and 1,300 meters above sea level. The Qiaojia County Education Bureau plans to construct this green building with classrooms and temporary offices for teachers to provide a better working and learning environment. The official construction for this project is set to start in September, 2016 and it will be completed before August, 2017.
