Delta E-Bike Mid-Drive Motor Wins iF Design Award 2025 with High Performance and Flexible Integration
Delta’s E-Bike Mid-Drive Motor has been honored with the prestigious 2025 iF Design Award, recognized by international judges for its patented compact design, high-performance capabilities, and flexible integration. This year’s iF Design Award received around 11,000 entries from 66 countries worldwide, with a winning rate of only 0.7%. The award evaluates submissions with five key criteria: idea, form, function, differentiation, and sustainability, assessing how designs provide solutions to contemporary needs from multiple perspectives. Delta stands out amid fierce competition, and continues to gain global recognition for its outstanding design and superior performance.
“E-Bikes are ideal for mid-distance transportation, perfect for commuting, mountain biking, and off-road adventures, playing a significant role in reducing carbon emissions for greener cities,” said Josh Chi, director of Delta’s E-bike Solution Division. “In the past, the riding experience was compromised by overall weight distribution, as well as limited choices in control and powertrain solutions. Delta, leveraging 30 years of industrial expertise and collaborating with partners to build an open ecosystem, aims to unlock the potential of the E-Bike market through refined designs and flexible integration.”
Delta’s Mid-Drive Motor is the core of its E-Bike Powertrain Solution. The Mid-Drive Motor features a patented coaxial transmission structure, integrating the controller, motor, reduction gearbox, and sensors. The design allows this system to be 20% smaller than comparable products, while delivering a powerful torque output of up to 100 Nm. The Mid-Drive Motor allows the overall weight distribution to closely resemble that of a non-electric bike, providing a more natural riding experience and reducing safety risks such as wheel lifts on slopes.
Taking a step further, Delta combines the Mid-Drive Motor with the battery and HMI systems to offer a total solution, which enables flexible integration and customized development. Through collaboration with ecosystem partners, Delta aims to help brands create uniquely identifiable E-Bike products.
The iF Design Award represents prestigious recognition, particularly for industrial designs. Since its inception in 1954, the iF Design Award—alongside Germany’s Red Dot Design Award and the USA’s Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)—has been recognized as one of the world’s top three design awards. Established to revitalize post-war industries and promote economic growth, the Award honors outstanding industrial design. Over time, its evaluation criteria have evolved to include sustainability and social impact, with increasing focus on how well designs respond to the needs of the times.
