Delta Crafts Adapters for Applications Beyond the IT Field As PD Fast Charging Becomes Widespread
From Switching Power Supplies to Adapters
Switching power supplies are the core products that Delta first developed in the 1980s. They can be categorized as “integrated” and “external” based on their installation location. Initially, integrated power supplies were the primary focus for Delta due to surging demand for PCs. It wasn't until the year 2000 that Delta's external switching power supplies found a place in the laptop market. Today, Delta's adapters are applied to laptops from various major brands, spanning budget models to commercial and gaming use models. Those adapters power up one in every three laptops in the market, securing an impressive 45% market share.

Keys to Advanced Technology: Innovative Topology
Delta always values research and development, an idea that it upholds when designing adapters. Delta’s adapters possess not only high quality but also pioneering 93% efficiency compared to competitors’ 90%, winning trust from clients. The essence of leading power electronic products lies in topology control. Described as the blueprint on a printed circuit board (PCB), topology serves as the tool for researchers to improve the quality of power supplies. For the topology of an adapter, a controller IC and a magnetic component are the two most important factors. The recipe for Delta to manufacture a high-performance adapter includes competitive magnetic components and innovative control modes, which result in higher energy conversion efficiency. In recent years, Delta has progressively adopted GaN technology to push its limits for higher efficiency.
Adapter Applications Go beyond the IT Field
With the surge of high power and PD (Power Delivery) technology, the usage of adapters has expanded from PCs to gaming consoles, networking equipment, and even beyond IT fields, such as fruit tumblers, televisions, and other home appliances, as well as electric vehicles.
Delta’s adapter portfolio comprises the PD Series and Non-PD Series. The former features Wall Mount and AC Socket form factors with 30W - 140W power outputs and Type-C ports. The non-PD Series covers power outputs from 36W - 500W, including a rare high-power 500W model which is suitable for gaming PC monitors or energy-consuming home appliances.
While non-PD charging is still applicable to many high-power products, the European Union, Brazil, India, and other places already announced the comprehensive adoption of Type-C connectors for small electronic products, which will undoubtedly accelerate the infiltration of the PD fast charging standard. Recently, Delta launched a high-power adapter that complies with the latest PD 3.1 protocol and is suitable for high-power electrical appliances. Delta is also developing "USB PD Dual Port Socket Outlets” that are expected to be adopted in households and public places in the future. With diversifying strategies in place, Delta aims to embrace the era that is dominated by PD fast-charging standard.
