Delta Motion Control Solution Enables High-Precision Robotic Arm Control for Continuous Production
With the benefits of shorter cycle time and higher production efficiency, many manufacturers have started using robotic arms instead of manpower to execute material loading and unloading for machine tools. Delta Industrial Automation recently applied its robotic arm solution for a Chinese customer. Based on its outstanding automation technology and experience, Delta provided a high precision and high speed solution to help the customer achieve safe continuous production, substantially increase capacity, and enhance competitiveness.
The robotic arm system's Cartesian coordinate structure supports a 3-axis motion path. Assembled with a gripping jaw, it loads and unloads work pieces for the machine tool. The process flow is as below:
1. When production begins, the robotic arm grasps a work piece from the material pallet, moves it to the top of the machine tool and loads the material.
2. The robotic arm then moves to idle and sends a notice to the machine to starting machining.
3. After machining completes, the robotic arm moves to the top of the machine tool again and executes unloading.
High precision motion control and stable communication were critical for smooth system operations. The robotic arm solution provided by Delta included the 7” controller with HMI, HMC Series, the advanced servo drive for high-end motion systems, ASDA-A2 Series, and the high performance servo motors, ECMA series. The system featured high precision positioning with 0.02mm control accuracy. It also adopted a remote I/O panel for external input/output signal control. The system structure is simple, easy to maintain, and enables prompt and stable robotic arm control.
