The DeltaMOOCx Online Teaching Platform and the Math Resource Center Launch Math Solution Course for College Entrance Exams

DeltaMOOCx, a massive open online course (MOOC) platform constructed with the support of the Delta Electronics Foundation, K-12 Education Administration, Ministry of Education (MOE), and National Academy for Educational Research, will cooperate with the MOE's Ordinary Senior High School Curriculum Math Resource Center on January 24th to launch a free online math problem-solving course. The course will help students after the upcoming college entrance examination quickly understand the mathematics questions and math-solving concepts and enhance their mathematical ability. The platform's strong math-solving faculty will include the outstanding and award-winning teachers of Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, Taipei First Girls' High School, Taipei Municipal Zhong Shan Girls High School, The Affiliated Senior High school of National Kaohsiung Normal University and National Chunan Senior High School. There will be teachers online at the Math Resource Center before the end of January to offer students counseling on how to answer questions and enhance their problem solving ability. The program, initiated by the Math Resource Center and utilizing a digitalized educational platform provided by DeltaMOOCx, is a new cooperation model between government officials and the private sector. Students, teachers, and parents may enroll online at http://edu.deltamoocx.net.

Mr. Bruce Cheng, the founder and honorary Chairman of Delta, said: “I have focused on education and environmental protection since my retirement, which is my way of giving back to society. The DeltaMOOCx platform will help strengthen the industrial automation courses of universities in Taiwan through free internet resources. It will also help high school and industrial vocational high school students strengthen their basic knowledge of the natural sciences. The idea is to help motivate students for continuous learning through the help of good teachers and Internet technology. We believe that cooperating on math-solving with the Math Resource Center will help students develop more systematic mathematical thinking.

Professor Tsong-Ping Peng, National Tsing Hua University, the program host of DeltaMOOCx, said: “DeltaMOOCx has been online since March 2015 with about 1,000 teaching videos accumulated up to present and more than 200,000 viewers of the teaching courses. The e-learning will not only help reduce Taiwan's urban-rural gap, but will also help low achieving students learn through the Internet. Hopefully, the demonstration of math-solving for the college entrance examination will inspire more teachers to use digital teaching materials in their classrooms for the benefit of more students.”

Cheng-Ching Tseng, a teacher at the Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School and the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) Program Convener of the Math Resource Center said: “The Math Resource Center recognizes the talent cultivation concept of the Delta Electronics Foundation and recommends that Excellent Teacher Award winners and excellent county and city teachers help develop the math-solving online courses and provide students with the concepts described in simple terms.”

A strong math-solving faculty is invited to participate, including: Chun-Hsiung Tseng, a teacher at the Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, and Cheng-Feng Lee, a teacher at National Chunan Senior High School, who have both received “Excellent Teacher Awards;” Limin Su, a teacher at Taipei First Girls' High School, who was awarded “Super Teacher” by the Taipei Teachers Association; Ting-Ling Wu, the teacher of the mathematically gifted classes at Taipei Municipal Zhong Shan Girls High School; and Zhi-Chang Ou, a teacher at the affiliated Senior High school of National Kaohsiung Normal University who was awarded “National Science Fairs Excellent Instructor.” All together the teachers have over 200 years of teaching seniority. There are over a dozen teachers behind the scenes helping record teaching materials. In addition Professor Wei-Chang Shann of the Center for Teacher Education and the Department of Math, National Central University has been invited to the studio to direct the teaching course recording and ensure the correctness of the math problem solutions. Teachers involved in math-solving rehearsed and conducted verbal discussions in advance at ELTA TV Station at the beginning of the month to make sure the course content was interesting to students in the digital generation.
