Delta’s Integrated Solution for High-speed Punching Machines Enhances Operation Stability

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020, Taiwan’s government and local mask makers collaborated to raise the production capacity of masks and shorten their lead times in just a few months. These efforts ensured the Taiwanese public could count on a certain level of protection in the gravest time of need. As people paid attention to the measures taken by the government and mask makers, they were missing another important source of support: the machine tool companies. Without the unabating support of machine tool companies, it was impossible to build sufficient mask-making machines and complete production lines in such a short time.

Machine tools are known as the ‘mother of machinery,’ which processes materials such as metal plates into parts to be assembled into machines. Essential to machinery manufacturing, machine tools serve two main purposes: cutting and shaping. Common cutting tools include drilling machines and grinding machines, which remove parts of metal plates by laser cutting, sanding, and other means. Shaping tools include punching machines and forging machines, which shape metal plates by stamping.

Among shaping tools, the punching machine is widely applied in almost all sizes and scales of processing—from as small as nose bridge clips for medical masks to as large as airplanes and missiles. For small precision parts processing that usually runs in continuous mode, speed and capacity are important requirements. High-speed punching machines are needed to provide better productivity with shorter crankshaft offsets and higher speeds.

As high-speed and power processing imposes a greater demand on system stability and load capacity, Delta has developed a solution integrating the drive and control for a customer in eastern China. The solution adopts Delta Standard PLC DVP-ES3 Series for advanced logic and motion control. With the Delta High Performance Vector Control Drive C2000 Plus Series, the solution provides excellent overload performance with good speed and torque control. Using the Delta Human Machine Interface DOP-100 Series, operators can easily monitor equipment status and configure parameters. This solution completely integrates drive and control to ensure stable and high-performance operation.

Delta’s High-speed Punch Machine Solution brings the following benefits to the customer:

  • Integrated solution for high system stability
The solution adopts and integrates Delta’s drive (High Performance Vector Control Drive C2000 Plus Series), PLC (Standard PLC DVP-ES3 Series) and HMI (Human Machine Interface DOP-100 Series) products, which allows smooth communication and stable operation.

  • Higher over-load performance
The Delta High Performance Vector Control Drive C2000 Plus Series provides excellent load capacity, which makes it the best choice for high power applications. With strengthened overload capacity, the punching machine can stably deliver outputs when accelerating or inching and for many other conditions.

  • Fast deceleration feature enhances performance and streamlines the mechanism
The solution supports Delta’s own fast deceleration feature. It can effectively eliminate power regeneration and ensure smooth and fast deceleration without braking resistors.

Delta integrates its drive and control products to develop an integrated solution for high-speed punching machines. The high load capacity and advanced control features achieve stable and highly efficient processing. Additionally, Delta’s deceleration feature further enhances operation smoothness. This highly integrated solution empowers machine tool makers to surpass their business competition.
