Delta’s M∞Vbase Modular Charger and M∞Vair Wireless Charging Solutions Accelerate Smart Logistics and Industry 4.0

Introduction

As technologies evolve, the landscape of manufacturing and logistics rapidly develops from traditional labor-intensive to automation-centric. This also leads to changes in technology, sustainability, and efficiency of machines and equipment, which drive the need for more efficient and automated battery-charging solutions. Delta has long paid close attention to these trends and has leveraged the strengths of customization experience in industrial power supplies for over 50 years to provide a modified stationary charging for AGVs to a world-leading retailer. In 2021, Delta launched world-first M∞Vair 01, the 1kW wireless charging system in serial production, revolutionizing manufacturing and logistics to accelerate the progress of Industry 4.0.

M∞Vbase Modular Charger: The First Attempt to the AGV Market

The Modular Charger M∞Vbase Series is an advanced modular solution for charging industrial AGVs with different power demands. It features 1-phase and 3-phase models and offers exceptional flexibility and efficiency for clients. Through additional power modules, it is easy to accommodate to increased charging demands. The Ethernet connection and fleet managers can remotely monitor and control devices effortlessly. Besides, the Series allows all data to be easily integrated into existing fleet management or warehouse systems.

A world-leading e-commerce giant deploys its self-made Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and constantly works on process optimization in its distribution centers. Regarding the charging of these unmanned AGVs, the company wanted to partner with a trusted supplier which has secure material availability and production flexibility. Eventually, the company worked with Delta to adopt M∞Vbase Series’ 3-phase, 6kW Modular Charger, allowing extremely fast and efficient charging. The solution conforms to strict safety standards and the requirement for compact design on the vehicle.

M∞Vair 01: The World-First 1kW Wireless Battery Charging System

After the success of M∞Vbase Series, the M∞Vair 01, the world-first 1kW Wireless Charging System, was launched in 2021. This cutting-edge innovation charging solutions achieves more than 93% wall-to battery efficiency within a gap of up to 20 mm. M∞Vair 01 is a perfect choice for AGV manufacturers since it is easy to be integrated into any vehicle with any battery type including Li-ion batteries of 24V/ 36V/ 48V and meets high safety standards. The M∞Vair wireless technology also eliminates the need for maintenance of connector wear and tear, an attraction for end-users.

After the launch in 2021, the M∞Vair 01 caught the attention of ServisControl s.r.o., an AGV/AMR developer and manufacturer in Czech who were looking for a reliable lightweight wireless solution for opportunity charging. It came to Delta and integrated the M∞Vair 01 into their platform vehicles, low & high lifting AGVs, and towing vehicles. The company was impressed with M∞Vair 01’s 93% energy conversion efficiency, meeting their goal for efficiency, cost and resource optimization.

Wireless charging has aroused interest from robotic companies as well. The company Oversonic focuses on cognitive humanoid robots. It has recently launched the new humanoid robot Robee, which leverages AI to move around autonomously to identify and avoid potential obstacles, implementing complicated tasks in manufacturing. To achieve fully autonomous operation and charging while ensuring the safety and stability for Robee, Oversonic worked with Delta to install M∞Vair 01, whose lightweight allows the robots to move as fast and smoothly as possible.

M∞VairFamily: The Widest Wireless Charging System Portfolio Worldwide

So far, the M∞Vair Series features 1kW, 3.3kW, 10kW and 30kW models.  Since the 1 kW and 30 kW models made a great success in the market, Delta is expecting another bloom with the 3.3 kW and 10 kW types to be release by the end of this year(2024). This Series is also the first to have the 30 kW wireless charging solution safety approved for US (MET and FCC) and Europe CE. This makes it even more attractive for global producers of bigger AGVs and logistic trucks. In addition to that, M∞Vair 30 delivers an exceptional energy efficiency of 95% within the gap of up to 150 mm, works reliably under harsh environments and offers the most reliable data connection between charging pads.

Take Neumaier as an example. Neumaier is a company that develops, designs, and produces mechatronic vehicles and systems for intralogistics. It has integrated M∞Vair 30 into its fully automated tow truck Factory Pull FP6180 for intralogistics and has proudly presented it at LogiMAT 2024. The company representatives highlighted the features of M∞Vair 30 that made their products more reliable and smarter, including easy integration, high quality, IP69 protection and the groundbreaking technology of PPL, the “Pad-to-Pad Link which is a patented communication technology developed exclusively by the Delta. It successfully solves the cross-talk issue of WIFI devices, ensuring reliable and undisturbed communication between the primary unit and secondary unit at a distance of up to 150 mm. The PPL uses a magnetic field for communication. Unlike other communication solutions, such as IR, it is immune to dirt and dust, suitable for applications in harsh environments.

MVair Wireless Charging Systems Series consists of 1kW, 3.3kW, 10kW and 30kW models and feature contactless charging over a gap of 20 - 150 mm and 93% - 95% efficiency to lower unnecessary energy waste.

The Future Development of the Wireless Charging Solutions

Many of the Delta’s clients are world-leading companies and the trendsetters in logistics and manufacturing. The charging solutions have proven exceptional qualities in industrial battery charging, yet they can do much more.

Since there is a growing trend in automation and autonomous, it means that there are many opportunities in wireless charging for bigger vehicles, robotic equipment, and other innovative devices. Having IP65 standards for charging systems also makes the M∞Vair Series attractive for agriculture, where reliable functionality in harsh and polluted environments plays a crucial role.

In fact, many clients are discussing further applications of the M∞Vair to autonomous delivery vehicles, drones, and more devices in various industries. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology and unwavering commitment to high quality, Delta has already won the trust of many players in the AGV market and will reach out to more clients in new fields in the future.
