The Zhiyuan Building on National Chiao Tung University's Tainan Campus | Tainan

The Zhiyuan Building on the Tainan campus of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), was established as a research and development center for enterprise / university cooperation and to support cultivating industry talent. The building has 5 floors with an area of 23,372 square meters. So far, the College of Artificial Intelligence and 19 enterprises have located in this building.

With many years of practical experience in green buildings worldwide, Delta provides one-stop consulting and engineering services for green buildings and smart buildings—from integrated planning of architectural design to execution of projects. Delta's IoT-based Building Automation solutions meet the needs of energy management, automated control, system integration, security monitoring, and more, to help improve operational efficiency and create a smart, energy-saving, and safe innovation center. Delta expects to obtain both of the Taiwan Green Building label and Intelligent Building label in 2021.

1. Smart management for more efficient building operations
Using Delta Controls web-based graphic control software enteliWEB for central monitoring and the LOYTEC building control system that supports various open communication protocols, facility managers can monitor various subsystems, such as lighting, air conditioning, fire alarms, water supply and drainage, and emergency systems on a single platform to reduce management costs.

The smart elevator call system can arrange elevator cars by identifying the number of people in a queue using the VIVOTEK 360° fisheye camera, which can save people’s waiting times. When the number of people exceeds a preset number, the elevator automatically dispatches elevator cars. The Vivitek NovoDS digital dashboard shows the elevator call status in real time, improving the efficiency of elevator operation.

In the smart meeting room, the lighting, air conditioning, projectors and screens are integrated through the LOYTEC Automation Server L-INX and DALI lighting controller L-DALI. Users can select application scenarios such as meeting mode or presentation mode on the touch panel, and then all equipment can be turned on or off automatically.

The automated control of the meeting room is further combined with the reservation system. The equipment can be activated after the users have registered the meeting room within the reserved time period. If the meeting room is not activated for use, the system automatically releases the reservation for other users, which greatly improves the usage efficiency of the meeting space.

2. Intelligent monitoring of air conditioning and lighting equipment to achieve effective energy saving
In terms of energy-saving design, a pleasant temperature and humidity is maintained while saving on air conditioning by using a variable-frequency chiller, Variable Water Volume System (VWV) control, automatic scheduling control of exhaust fan, and more. The energy-saving efficiency of the air-conditioning system can be increased by at least 17.5% compared with conventional buildings.

In addition to fully adopting energy-saving LED lighting and implementing zone-based lighting control, the public area on the first floor also adopts the DALI system constant lighting control. The DALI system automatically adjusts the lighting according to the intensity of natural light to maintain a constant brightness, taking into account energy saving and user comfort. The energy efficiency of the lighting system can be increased by at least 75% compared to conventional buildings.

In addition to monitoring the operation of building equipment, Delta Energy Online provides energy monitoring functions that can convert energy use data into valuable analysis to help identify major energy consumption areas and observe energy-saving potential for further energy-saving strategy implementation.

3. Intelligent security management, taking into account management efficiency and personnel safety
Delta SmartPASS Access Control Management supports dual access control using RFID access control and facial recognition integrated on the same platform, which enhances management efficiency and convenience. In the public area, card readers can facilitate access control. For each enterprise office, access control is equipped with highly accurate facial recognition to avoid security concerns caused by photo theft. Delta SmartPASS Parking Management combines use of license plate recognition and employee/visitor information for an unmanned management mechanism.

The building’s central monitoring system leverages the big data from the Civil IoT Taiwan Data Service Platform. When an earthquake occurs, the central monitoring system receives an earthquake quick report and opens the escape exit to accelerate the evacuation of people.

Outside the building, Delta’s Smart Street Lighting solution provides not only smart lighting control via LoRa, but also emergency buttons that directly connect to the building management system for real-time assistance.

Delta’s Building Automation Solution successfully transformed the Zhiyuan Building into a smart building, achieving three major benefits: reducing operation costs, increasing asset values, and creating a safe and comfortable environment. The Zhiyuan Building fulfills the university’s vision for it to become a forward-looking industry and research center.
