Building Smart Cities – Delta's LED Streetlight Solution Saves 70% in Power and NTD 18 Million in Annual Electricity Fees for Taoyuan City, Taiwan

Delta was invited to the Taoyuan City government's “Light Up! Taoyuan Smart City” seminar on August 31st 2018, to share our experience in building infrastructure in various cities around the world. Delta began developing a Smart LED Streetlight Solution in 2010. Since then, over 600,000 of our LED streetlights have been installed throughout the world and the number continues to grow yearly. More than half of the lights are built in Taiwan and nearly 10% are smart streetlights that can be remotely monitored to achieve a smart city.

Mr. Kun-Yueh Lin, Director of Delta's Lighting Business Unit, indicated that over the past 10 years Delta has provided smart, high-performance, and energy-saving LED streetlights in different counties and cities in Taiwan. Besides providing excellent lighting quality, the system can be expanded with add-on functions such as electric car chargers, environment sensors, video surveillance, information boards, and others, via IoT. With rapid data connections and collection, multifunctional lighting services have become one of the most important infrastructure elements in developing a smart city.

To date, Delta has installed nearly 13,000 LED streetlights in Taoyuan city and around half of them (6,500) are remotely monitored and controlled by Delta's LED Smart Streetlight Management Platform. These smart lights can save over 70% in power and approximately 18 million NTD in electric fees compared to traditional mercury lights. Similarly, Delta is currently launching a project in Jakarta, Indonesia, which employs Delta's Smart Streetlight System and more than 20,000 LED lights with WiFi functions. These lights are also monitored by Delta's LED Smart Streetlight Management Platform and save at least 48% in power consumption compared to traditional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights.

Besides the Smart Lighting System, Delta continues to develop various innovative techniques such as building automation, electric car charging systems, energy storage, renewable energy systems, and more. Through strategic mergers and acquisition, Delta has enhanced its building automation research capabilities and offers a highly integrated smart platform that performs equipment control, data analysis and management, and connection with other energy infrastructure solutions to help plan and build key infrastructure for smart cities.
