Delta's Motion Control Solution Provides Excellent Speed and Efficiency for Automatic Winding Machine Application

Automatic winding machines are widely used for industrial applications in many fields to provide excellent end results through higher production efficiency and lower labor costs. Delta Industrial Automation (IA) recently provided a motion control solution that allowed a Chinese customer to manage their automatic winding machines. Based on Delta's outstanding automation technology and experience, the solution helped the customer achieve a substantial production increase with high precision and high speed.

Traditional winding machines require manual operations such as disc changing, tube emptying, tube clamping and packaging. With Delta's solution the customer automated their entire operation, saving labor costs and achieving high speed winding.

In general, automatic winding machines use motors to manage winding discs. A servo system controlling tube guide wheels automates the winding function. These machines are widely applied in industries such as textiles, furniture, hardware and other industries.

During operation, the machine is first reset to its origin. Next, the winding disc clamps the tube and begins to wind. The winding machine is also equipped with metering devices for measuring and monitoring the required tube lengths. Once the tube is unloaded, the winding machine automatically switches to another winding disc to start the whole process over.

Delta's solution features the Sensor-less Vector Control Compact Drive VFD-E Series with a TQC sensor-less function to adjust motor parameters to manage and perfectly control both winding discs. The advanced servo system ASDA-AB Series supports low, medium, and high inertia servo motors to manage the tube guide wheel movement with up to 0.01m control accuracy. In addition, the High Performance PLC DVP-EH Series with excellent motion control provides high speed and precise winding movement via RS-485 communication. Users can also employ the human machine interface DOP-B Series for direct and convenient access to adjust as well as monitor machine operations.
