Event Review: Delta's Integrated IIoT, Automation and CNC Solutions Bring Best Gifts at TIMTOS 2017

Delta just presented its smart manufacturing solutions, including the innovative Integrated IIoT, Automation and CNC Solution at the 26th Taipei Int'l Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) from March 7–12. This solution combines a machining center matched with a fully automated pick-and-place robot, IIoT technology, an equipment monitoring system, and a manufacturing execution system (MES) to perform the ordering and production of customized luggage tags. Delta Group Chairman Yancey Hai attended the grand exhibition on the opening day, and introduced this solution to visitors with a personal demonstration of ordering, producing, and receiving a customized luggage tag.

Integrated IIoT, Automation and CNC Solution Brings All-in-One Smart Manufacturing
With decades of experience in the automation field, Delta brings an expanded portfolio of automation products and solutions that feature high speed, high precision and flexibility for smart manufacturing. Among these, the Integrated IIoT, Automation and CNC Solution are adopted for Delta's CNC solution and newly launched articulated robot, and together with Fair Friend's machining center provide a fully automated, highly efficient pick-and-place and engraving workstation.

Connected to the manufacturing execution system (MES) of Delta's new subsidiary Unicom, the workstation takes a visitors' order, and prompts Delta's Articulated Robot DRV90L Series to pick up a blank luggage tag and place it into the machining center for engraving. Next, the machining center engraves the content from the customers' order onto the luggage tag to complete the customized gift. The MES sends a message to the customer when their order is received; and sends another message to inform the customer when the customized gift is ready. The MES allows direct monitoring of customer orders and progress in real-time via a webpage, and can perform flexible manufacturing schedule adjustments anytime.

The demonstration allows visitors to witness a typical IIoT application and gain a comprehensive overview of the process and how the machine operation data is collected and uploaded to the cloud. Connecting customers, equipment, manufacturing, and production management through the integration of IIoT technology, advanced automation solutions and a CNC system, the solution provides an excellent demonstration of smart manufacturing.

On the opening day, Delta Group Chairman Mr. Yancey Hai arrived at Delta's booth and operated the workstation to engrave his own luggage tag. Pleased with the result, he said, “Automation and smart manufacturing solutions are developed to fulfill changing customers and markets. With integrated production digitalization and cloud technology, Delta can build smart, value-added solutions and achieve flexible and interchangeable production for our customers in the machine tool industry. Automation is the key to solving labor shortage issues and enhancing production efficiency and product quality. Smart solutions can connect customers, managers and manufacturing to achieve flexible production, customization, and real-time remote management with visualization.”

IIoT and Smart Machine Solution with Fair Friend
Delta also displayed its IIoT and smart machine solution through a collaboration with Fair Friend.

While Delta displayed its Integrated IIoT, Automation and CNC Solution at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), Fair Friend presented its “Two Machine tools with One Robot” demonstration at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall, which included one Delta Articulated Robot DRV90L Series conducting workpiece / finished good pick-and-place for a vertical machining center, and a surface grinding machine. In addition, the vertical machining center adopted Delta's new Open CNC Solution with PC programming tools and an editing platform for customers to self-define their functions on CNC machines

With the implementation of Delta's new Equipment Data Acquisition Platform DIALink and the cloud, the operating information of Delta's and Fair Friend's machine tools, which were displayed separately at the TWTC and the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall, could be collected, analyzed and displayed in real-time. Visitors could experience the thorough, real-time monitoring of operation information such as working coordinates, current and voltage, and processing data such as total processing amount, processing speed, machine cutting hours, and operating hours of the dynamic machine tools at both Delta's and Fair Friend's booths. It was a successful application of smart machines for smart manufacturing.

Delta Open CNC Solution Builds Highly Efficient Cylindrical Grinding Machine
Delta's new Open CNC Solution advances the functionality and performance of cylindrical grinding machines with an open structure for hardware and software and user-friendly editing functions. Using Delta's new Open CNC Controller NC30E Series as the core controller, this solution features PC programming tools and an editing platform for customers to self-define their functions on CNC machines with Delta's PC-based Panel Motion Controller MP1 Series or any industrial controllers of other brands for optimized flexibility and customization. Digital communication and noise suppression add value by enhancing machine efficiency and processing precision when integrated with Delta's servo motion system.

Over the past decades, Delta has gained solid experience starting from field devices, such as AC motor drives, servo drives, and more, to key technology and software. Delta Chairman Mr. Yancey Hai pointed out that abundant experience in markets, a wide-ranging product line, and comprehensive global service and technical support are Delta's greatest advantages in providing the best smart automation solutions.
