Event Review: Smart Manufacturing for a Better Tomorrow – Delta IA Exhibits Robotic Solutions and Smart Green Solutions at CIIF 2016

Delta, a world leading provider of power supply and thermal management technology with operations around the world, showcased its products and solutions under the theme of "Smart Manufacturing for a Better Tomorrow" at the 18th China International Industry Fair (CIIF) in Shanghai on November 1st. Delta Industrial Automation (IA)presented a suite of green products and intelligent solutions in four key segments: industrial automation, smart building, power quality and smart green life. In the industrial automation section, Delta closely hewed to recent developments of Industry 4.0, and "Made in China 2025" debuting five solutions focusing on smart manufacturing, including a robotic workstation, smart devices, facility monitoring, energy management and a smart factory. With a comprehensive proposition and structure for smart manufacturing, Delta IA is well poised to help industry achieve green manufacturing concepts.

On the first day of the 2016 CIIF, Delta Greentech (China) Vice Chairman Jimmy Yiin was invited to attend the Second Future-oriented Manufacturing Summit where he delivered a speech on Delta's efforts to take the lead in heralding a new era for smart and green manufacturing. He explained that Delta has been an existing player in industrial automation for decades and is dedicated to the continuous research and development of innovative and energy-saving products and solution. This is in line with Delta's mission of delivering solutions that focus on environmental protection, energy saving, and caring for our planet. Specifically, in the smart manufacturing segment, Delta's industrial automation products can be integrated with Delta's cloud platform and Internet of Things technology to provide customers with customized robotic workstations, smart devices, facility monitoring, energy management and smart factory solutions. In addition, manufacturers can also create highly efficient and energy-saving plants with remote monitoring and visualization features for customers through a variety of smart energy saving solutions. With leading-edge technology and its rich experience, Delta has helped many large manufacturers successfully transition into a smart manufacturing firm and has supported customers in upgrading their level of automation and manufacturing intelligence.

Industrial robots play an important role in the evolution of smart manufacturing, from concept to reality. During the event, Delta exhibited various robotic workstation solutions, showcasing the capability and functions that a robotic workstation can deliver to the unmanned factory of the future. The robotic workstation is an integration of Delta industrial automation products consisting of a robot arm, robot controller, and machine vision system, as well as server drives and motors that provide highly flexible and customized solutions to meet individual client needs.

Delta held live demos of its industrial robots and solutions onsite. The Articulated Robot DRV90L Series is Delta's new key product for 2016 as well as Delta's first articulated robot. Its high flexibility allows customers to customize and optimize their design for different applications needs. It is especially suitable for applications in electronics, motors, rubber and plastics, metal fabrication and machine manufacturing. Delta's Wujiang Plant has already introduced the DRV90L series to its production line to assist in the function testing section of the SCARA robot, where it replaced manual operations, achieved a zero human error rate, and shortened testing time from 68 minutes to 18 minutes. Reducing operation time by nearly three-fourths delivered an outstanding improvement in efficiency by 74%. Together with monitoring and control system systems, it automatically records test data. In addition, when connected to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), it enables the provision of full production process traceability while enhancing manufacturing efficiency and product quality.

The industrial robot SCARA DRS40L/60L series features high speed and high precision, allowing it to perform plugins, assembly, glue dispensing, packaging and more, to significantly improve production efficiency. Delta's Wujiang production base has implemented SCARA robots in its facilities to execute finished product inspection, glue tracking, automatic screw tightening as well as soldering and other processes, helping improve operation efficiency, quality, and streamlining operations. The DRS60L series is also serving on the fan rotor assembly line at Delta's Wujiang Plant, supporting pick-and-place of fan blades with a suction device, fully eliminating the need for manual operations, while improving productivity from 500 to 600 units per hour and maintaining a consistent level of quality assurance.

The Delta high-speed parallel-connection robot solution, consists of Delta's robot controller ASDA-MS series with machine vision system and servo motors to provide customers with a high performance and highly flexible application. It marks Delta's pioneering approach of product integration into future smart manufacturing production lines.

Delta IA's key new products for 2016 were displayed at the event, including the high-performance AC servo drive ASDA-A3 series and the new generation IP55 fan and pump AC motor drive CFP2000 series. Delta also showcased its smart green building, power quality and smart green life solutions and demonstrated the diverse applications of its green and smart products.

At CIIF 2016, Delta's exhibits also included the Industry 4.0 Customized Laser Engraving Plant solution developed by Xiamen University, which was the winner of the 3rd Delta Advanced Automation Contest. The solution was developed solely using Delta's industrial automation products. The laser engraving machine was connected to a cloud database, which allowed customers to place an order for a laser engraved product through their WeChat account, one of China's leading social media platforms. Ordering was as simple as using a smart phone to login to WeChat, placing the order, and selecting the preferred pattern. The unique interactive functionalities and practical applications of Industry 4.0 attracted a large number of visitors to come and experience this solution at the booth. One visitor commented that, in addition to the in-depth exploration of smart and green manufacturing solutions, Delta offers a great example of helping our youth in the next generation to develop their skill sets to get ready for the future automation industry.

The manufacturing industry is becoming increasingly green and intelligent, creating two major challenges that need to be addressed by manufacturers as they transform and upgrade their businesses. Looking forward, Delta plans to capitalize on its advantages and experience in the environmental protection, energy saving and smart manufacturing fields. Delta allows every customer to "do it their way", anytime and anywhere, as well as helps manufacturers improve their overall competitiveness by working closely with customers to support a smart green life.

For the exhibition theme of “Innovation, Smart, and Green”, Delta will integrate industrial automation, monitoring and management, power management, power supplies, and green energy products to build total energy saving and management solutions for the smart manufacturing of “Integration, Coordination, Combination, and Innovation”.
