Delta's Printing Solution Adds Value to Printing Machinery in China

With years of experience, Delta's Industrial Automation Business Group (IABG) has integrated its products and developed the Delta printing solution, which is now widely applied in the printing industry. Currently, Delta's IABG is providing a high value-added printing solution for a major printing machine manufacturer in Huadong, China, taking a major step forward in China's printing machinery market.

Hardcover books have great potential in the printing industry even as the market size of the printing industry shrinks. The Huadong manufacturer has integrated its paper folding machines, three side cutting machines, and window patching machines with Delta's programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial Ethernet solutions, and human machine interfaces (HMIs) to develop automated production processes for making hardcover books, which have replaced its existing Japanese equipment. Delta's printing solution effectively improves production quality and helps customers successfully enter the printing machinery market, which has long been dominated by German manufacturers.

The production processes for hardcover books are complicated and varied. Precise and smooth operation is essential for the printing procedures. More and more machine makers seek a high precision and highly stable printing solution that requires an especially high quality motion control system. The Delta printing solution adopted five DVP-EN01 Series Ethernet communication modules and five 10.4-inch high color and high resolution DOP-B10E515 Series HMIs for the information layer. The DVP-EN01 Series modules allow abundant signal processing and data transmission, and make the production schedule planning much easier. The DOP-B10E515 Series HMIs provide Windows-based and user-friendly DOPSoft Screen Editor, which help users quickly edit images and graphs and easily select suitable communication protocols in accordance with the customer's requirements, providing more flexible production and intelligent operations.

To achieve precise control, the control layer applied four Network Type Motion Controller DVP-10MC Series and one high performance slim PLC DVP-28SV Series, offering simple wiring, accurate control, and high speed to meet the increasing demands of the motion control system. The DVP-10MC Series have built-in CANopen Builder Software that enhances graphic motion program editing efficiency with easy operation. The G-code editor, graph preview, and Electronic Cam (E-Cam) curve planning help users design more complex motion control programs. The DVP-28SV Series provide international standard function blocks (FB) for motion control to improve program editing efficiency. Other features include: 16k step program capacity, 200kHz 4-axis high speed pulse output, compact design, and quick installation.

To achieve multi-axis synchronization control, this solution adopted four DVP-10MC Series with 26 advanced servo drive ASDA-A2-M Series for high-end motion systems in the device layer. It offers an E-Cam function for best movement and full-closed loop control, which can reduce the effects of mechanical imperfections such as backlash and flexibility to ensure position precision at machine edges.

After completion of this project in April, 2013, the printing solution debuted at China Print 2013 in Beijing in May, and received an enthusiastic response from attendees. To meet the rapidly expanding market for printing machinery, Delta IABG has further optimized the Delta printing solution to strengthen its leading position in high-end printing. Delta continues to provide the best printing solutions with "Automation for a Changing World"!
