Delta 3-Axis Robot Arm Control System Enhances the Process Efficiency of Injection Molding Production

In the 1980s China started to adopt new open economic policies that brought fast economic growth. The changes quickly made manufacturing industries such as IT, automobiles, and electronics, bloom in China and won the reputation of “World's Factory” for the country.

The resulting rapid economic development in China brought new issues, including natural resource depletion, rising costs for labor and materials, labor shortages, and more. These issues impacted manufacturing industries the most and now China's manufacturers are looking for energy-saving automation solutions to solve labor scarcities, improve production efficiency, and decrease costs.

In manufacturing industries, robot arms are widely applied for production processes. In Dongguan, Guangdong, one of the major manufacturing sites in China, Delta has provided a customer with 3-axis motion control systems for robot arms that are used with injection molding machines. Delta's 3-axis robot arm solution uses a handheld controller with the human machine interface HMC07 Series as the control interface, the 3-in-1 synchronous servo drive ASDA-M Series, and the AC servo motor ECMA Series for system control.

The HMC07 Series has built-in PLCs, which combine programmable control functions and a control interface for sequence logic control of the 3-axis robot arm. The 2-in-1 feature simplifies the system structure and saves costs for customer. The HMC07 Series uses Delta's DMCNET high speed and real time communication bus (cycling within 1ms) to save wiring cost, and its handheld design allows more flexible and convenient operation.

For operation control, Delta adopts the ASDA-M Series with 3-axis synchronization servo module and calculation functions for various motion paths such as linear and arc interpolation. These features allow the ASDA-M Series to accurately perform 3-axis synchronization control for a robot arm with simplified system structure and higher system efficiency.

Together, the HMC07 Series and the ASDA-M Series form a simple control system for the robot arm that quickly and precisely fetches molded products from the injection molding machine to a designated place. The simple system structure and wiring help the customer to improve operation efficiency and save costs. The customer was pleased with the outstanding application results.

Delta industrial automation strives to serve clients' needs and provides automation solutions with low cost and high efficiency. Delta industrial automation continues to provide “Automation for a Changing World” and deliver advanced solutions to clients through the pursuit of innovation.
