Three Delta Automation Technologies for a Better Steel Cutting Solution

With years of experience in manufacturing, Delta Industrial Automation has launched its Flying Shear Solution for Steel Bar/Pipe Cutting Equipment that integrates three Delta products to offer cutting precision, efficiency, and a user-friendly system.

Fixed-length cutting of various materials is becoming more important for manufacturing industries that require large amounts of steel materials. For example, construction, automotive sheet production, and machinery and equipment sheet production all require fixed-length cutting machines.

With increasing requirements in the iron and steel industry, the demand for cutting precision and efficiency has also grown. First and foremost are flying shear machines that are widely applied to steel pipe cutting to avoid material deformation while controlling motor power to reduce energy cost.

Delta's flying shear solution adopts Delta's motion controller (PLC) DVP10MC Series with an external encoder and the AC servo drive ASDA-A2 Series. The DVP10MC and the encoder adjust spindle speed to control the ASDA-A2 which operates the flying shear motion. The solution also adopts Delta's human machine interface (HMI) DOP-B Series for simple and easy parameter setting and switch control. The three products are perfectly integrated and the solution is open, smart and human, helping customers achieve high precision, high speed, high efficiency and low power consumption for steel bar/pipe cutting.

Delta's flying shear solution for steel bar/pipe cutting also has three main function modules that greatly enhance the solution's friendliness and flexibility. First, the DVP10MC has a built-in “External Master” function block to build an external encoder spindle for the speed control of back and forth cutting. Second, the “Flying Shear_Init” function module of the DVP10MC supports the parameter setting of flying shear cutting for steel bars/pipes, including, master/slave axis radius length, steel bars/pipes cutting length, synchronous flying shear start/stop position. In addition, all the information and setting parameters can be built in the DOP-B at the same time for rapid and easy parameter settings, and users can trigger flying shear operation for steel bar/pipe cutting via “Flying Shear FB”.

The three built-in function blocks of the DVP10MC greatly reduce the time and effort needed to build a system, and it effectively helps customers on real applications and operation. Delta continues to provide innovative solutions for customers in a wide range of industries with “Automation for a Changing World”.
