Delta Electronics' Cutting-Edge Medium Voltage Drives
to Foster Industrial Energy Efficiency Across EMEA

Amsterdam, Apr. 03, 2014 - Delta Electronics, Inc., the leading global provider of power and thermal management solutions, announces that its state-of-the-art and versatile Medium Voltage Drives (MVD), which boast industry-leading energy efficiency, promise to deliver a unique value proposition to a broad spectrum of industrial applications in the EMEA region by enabling prime opex savings and superior equipment reliability and performance. Our MVD1000 has enabled energy savings of up to 52% since its implementation at a cement manufacturing facility in Taiwan.

Delta's MVD 1000 series is designed to optimize the productivity of a wide range of variable torque applications. Its industry-leading energy efficiency of >98.5% (excl. phase-shift transformer) along with its modular highly-configurable design offers a remarkably competitive total cost of ownership. Its system architecture includes IGBT-based power cells connected in series to achieve working voltage with easy interchange and maintenance.

The MVD 2000 series is a remarkable option for speed control of constant torque operations given that it minimizes costs of ownership via its cutting-edge frequency-conversion multilevel inverter technology, vector control algorithms and its leading energy efficiency of >98% (excl. phase-shift transformer). Its compact, modular design, its simple installation, operation and maintenance are also part of such equation.

The superior protection features of our MVD technology also enable enviable returns on investment through prolonged equipment lifetime. Thus, the MVD 1000's low input/output harmonics and the MVD 2000's capacity to produce large output torque at low speeds and during motor startup help eliminate motors' mechanical stress by buffering grid voltage fluctuations and inrush current.

Our highly-adaptable MVD product portfolio offers voltage range from 3.3kV to 11kV, with the highest power rating of up to 12MW. It has gradually built a strong track record within the industrial sector in applications such as power generation, mining, metals, cement and petrochemicals. A noteworthy success story is the implementation of Delta's MVD1000 at a cement manufacturing facility in Taiwan.

This case is a retrofit project for a factory that has been operating for over 50 years. Delta's MVD1000 was installed to replace the water resistor for the clinker cooler Induction Draft Fan (IDF). Since its implementation, the upgraded system has registered energy savings of more than 52%.

Such benefit implies a relatively short payback time of less than 2 years even excluding the process productivity enhancement that has also been realized thanks to MVD1000 implementation. Delta Group, acting as a comprehensive solutions provider, not only supplied the Medium Voltage Drives but also the thermal management solutions for the environment where the drives are installed.
