Driving Stability and Efficiency: Another Delta Power Quality Success Story for Automobile Manufacturing

Delta's SVG2000 series Static Var Generator improves power quality for automobile manufacturing. It provides production equipment with a clean and stable power supply for better production performance and ensures a longer lifespan for production systems.

Automobiles have become an indispensable part of our daily lives since their introduction in the 1890s. The automobile industry streamlined supply chains and was a key to economic development. There has been a surging demand for automobiles in recent decades, particularly from developing countries. Automotive manufacturing is growing yearly and the market is massive, with the yearly production of automobiles exceeding 84,000,000 in 2012.

The manufacturing of automobiles is comprised of a string of complicated processes, including casting, forging, pressing, resin molding, bumper coating, welding, assembly, and many more. Manufacturing precision and stability are critical as automobiles must be safe in actual use and are a high value item.

China has emerged as the world's top automobile producing country as well as the largest automobile market. However, many automobile manufacturers in China frequently face enormous production losses and safety issues caused by unstable production processes due to power quality problems.

A Chinese brand automobile manufacturer in East China adopted a variety of equipment with non-linear electric loads, including transformers and inverters to facilitate the production process. However, this equipment induced substantial electric voltage and current, known as harmonics. The reactive power in the low-voltage power grid caused inferior power efficiency, capacity waste of transformers, damage to the capacitor cabinets, and overheating and resonance of the metal magnetic components. These side effects jeopardized the system's lifespan and affected production efficiency, safety, and product quality.

Dedicated to innovation and improvement in energy management, Delta Industrial Automation proposed a power quality solution for the automobile manufacturer in East China. After a thorough diagnosis of the causes of the on-site power quality problems, Delta installed its SVG2000 series Static Var Generator and directly connected it to the power grid for power quality control.

The SVG2000 was installed by the 1000KVA voltage transformer in the final assembly workshop to manage the power distribution system. With dynamic compensation for the leading, lagging and the harmonic current, the SVG2000 successfully suppressed the voltage distortion rate from 8.1% to 0.9%, and current distortion rate from 20.3% to 5.2%, and eliminated the sources of overheating, resonance and many other problems. It provided the production equipment with a clean and stable power supply for better production performance, and ensures a longer lifespan for the production system.

The SVG2000 also compensated the reactive power for the power wasted and improved the total power factor from 0.71 to 0.98. The improvements kept the company free from penalties charged by power utilities due to low power. Instead, they were rewarded with discounted power bills for their improved power factor. Delta's power quality solution helps users save big on power costs and makes the best usage of limited power resources.

Delta Industrial Automation's power quality products and solutions have been successfully adopted in production lines of various industries around the world. It ensures better power quality for production processes that are efficient, stable and safe. As your most trustworthy partner, Delta endeavors to offer solutions for a smarter and greener tomorrow.
