Extending leadership is the theme and judging criteria of the China Business Leaders Awards 2010. According to the event host, there are three meanings for extending leadership. The first interpretation is for the extending of mind and vision, where enterprises become not only leaders of emerging markets, but also active participants in global markets, and future thought leaders, while demonstrating leadership as transnational enterprises. Then there is the extending of business models, where business leaders of the new generation should have well-rounded business concepts, adopting new business models from both China and the West as investment models change globally. The third is the extending of concern for society where business leaders are socially oriented, value corporate social responsibility and care about social issues. The six prestigious awards presented by the CBLA include: the China Business Leader of the Year Award; the Corporate Social Responsibility Award; the China Innovator of the Year Award; the China Talent Management Award; the Public's Choice of CEO of the Year Award; and the CEOs' Choice of the Year Award.

The judging process for the China Business Leaders Awards is led by the world renowned University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. The judging committee evaluates nominated business leaders based on a combination of criteria including financial performance, leadership, creativity and innovation, and social responsibility, with an emphasis on the candidates' demonstrated business leadership in creating short-term advantages, long-term value and competitive advantages.
