Delta Electronics' Latest Energy-efficient Solutions
Enable NCTU to Win an "Energy Efficiency Award" at Solar Decathlon Europe 2014

Versailles, France, July 11, 2014 – Delta Electronics (TWSE: 2308), a global leader in power and thermal management solutions headquartered in Taiwan, today announced its latest high efficiency solutions enabled the "Orchid House", built by the Unicode team from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), to win the 3rd place "Energy Efficiency Award" at the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 held at the Chateau de Versailles, France. Delta's high efficiency solutions include solar photovoltaic power generation, energy storage, energy monitoring, and environmental control.

The "Energy Efficiency Award" recognizes the best teams in system design, architectural design, and energy efficiency. Mr. Harrison Fraker, a judge at the competition, said, "This evaluation considers not only the active side of energy conservation but also the jury pays special attention to each team's ability to save energy passively from the design standpoint. Many teams have performed remarkably in this regard through the use of advanced techniques that have certainly inspired admiration from the judges."

Delta's Chief Brand Officer and Delta Foundation's Executive Director Shan-Shan Guo said, "The "Orchid House" utilizes advanced solutions for energy management, storage and solar power generation developed by Delta. Through Delta's professional assistance, the NCTU was one of the leading teams to pass the inspection of the energy system. In addition, the "Orchid House" enables even higher energy savings through synergies between its design and our environmental control platform. Utilizing Delta-branded products at this international event strengthens our efforts towards environmental education and the promotion of sustainability

Delta supported NCTU through the integration of the company's energy systems. The Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 has been held since late June 2014 and consistes of 20 university teams from all over the world. The teams were given only 10 days to complete the construction of green buildings at the Chateau de Versailles. This is the first time that a team from a Taiwanese university has participated at the Solar Decathlon and it was a remarkable example of cooperation between enterprises and academic institutions. In addition to the "Energy Efficiency Award", the "Orchid House" also became the first team from Asia to win the "Urban Design, Transportation & Affordability Award" (UDTA).

Delta's solution for the "Orchid House" consists of Delta's BEMS (Delta Building Energy Management System) and the Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS).

‧Delta BEMS: The BEMS strives for a Triple A – Active Sensing, Amiable UI and Aptitude for Management – as it delivers a distinctly comprehensive solution. With a unique vision for the integration, automation, and intelligence of Building Management, Delta helps building owners achieve high efficiency, not only in their energy use but also in their operating expenditures. Its intelligent design Fuzzy Logic Inference and Self-adaptive Temperature Control, respect human needs to effectively ensure indoor comfort while saving energy. The Delta BEMS comprises an organic set of interoperating systems, including: Delta IoT (Internet of Things) Platform, Delta Centre (software data collection), Delta Expert (intelligent energy-saving), and Delta Energy Online (energy monitoring & control). Delta clients can order a customized architecture according to their real application needs.

‧Delta BESS: The BESS installed at the "Orchid House" demonstrates Delta's capabilities in integrating hardware and software for total solutions. The proprietary software platform designed by Delta enables a power controller to monitor and control all rectifiers, PV inverters, and the Li-ion battery packs inside the BESS. The system integrates several Delta products, such as rectifiers that boast industry-leading efficiency of 96.2% and a power density of 36.5 W/in3, and are currently used by major telecom carriers throughout the EMEA region. Delta's BESS delivers optimum conditions for reducing electricity bills by maximizing the performance of renewable energy systems.
