DelSolar Helps River of Life Church Go Green

River of Life Christian Church (ROLCC) at Silicon Valley, and DelSolar Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Delta Electronics Inc. based in Fremont, CA jointly announce their plan to install solar panels at ROLCC location in Santa Clara, CA.

ROLCC's roof top mounted solar arrays will be installed and commissioned by the end of 2009. The 117kW system will consist of approximately 510 230W high power DelSolar photovoltaic modules and will generate 180,800 kW hours of clean power annually, more than 4.5 million kWh over 25 years. The church will prevent approximately 5 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over 25 years, a significant fight against climate change.

Senior Pastor Reverend Tong Liu says his congregation is very excited about the opportunity to install solar power. ROLCC is very committed to the environment. Rev. Liu praises God for creating a beautiful world, for calling us to care for His creation, and giving us the minds, talent, and resources to provide that care. As stewards of God's creation who hold the earth in trust, the ROLCC community is called to use the earth's resources responsibly. Tapping into solar energy is one way to do good in the world, and it helps ensure a better world for future generations.

In additional to the environmental benefits, ROLCC will save on its electricity bill. Through a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA), ROLCC is able to go solar without any capital investment and save money from day one. As utility rates continue to rise, ROLCC's electricity bill savings will grow each year. The savings can be used elsewhere for missions, staff salaries, and creative ministries. From this perspective there is no economic reason not to do this project. It is completely self sufficient ROLCC hopes to demonstrate the benefits of solar power to its own community and expects other congregations to follow its lead. Tapping into solar and other renewable sources to protect our environment fit well into the mission statement of any church.
