Delta Group Opens Taoyuan Plant 3 and R&D Center

Delta Electronics Inc. today announced the opening of its Taoyuan Plant 3 and R&D Center today. The new plant employs Delta's own energy saving and industrial automation products and control systems. Eco-friendly features of the plant include solar panels, LED lighting, water resource processing and renewable energy equipment that not only trims the annual power bill by NTD 5 million, but also reduces 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions and uses about 75% less water (around 3,000 tons). The new plant fulfills the Delta Group mission: 'To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow.'

Delta Group's Founder and Chairman Mr. Bruce Cheng said, "Delta has focused its operations in Taiwan since its founding forty years ago. By building 10 production and R&D facilities in Taiwan, six within Taoyuan County, Delta is recruiting and developing R&D talent to contribute to the development of the high-tech industry and domestic labor market. In spite of the global recession and capital investment reduction, Delta still maintains its 6% R&D expense level, relative to the total group revenue, by building new factories and investing in R&D. The new plant is our key site for green power research and power integration in industrial automation and motor electronics. It demonstrates our commitment to environmental protection and energy saving. The Taoyuan Plant 3 adopts many of Delta's energy saving solutions to realize Delta's mission of providing innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow."

Mr. Simon Chang, General Manager of Delta's Industrial Automation Business Unit, agrees, "Taoyuan Plant 3 will be a key R&D center for electric vehicle power systems and industrial automation systems as well as a successful application of smart green building solutions. Based upon knowledge gained from our daily operations in the new plant, Delta can fine tune system performance and verify system capacity through actual data gathered in our own automated building control and energy saving systems. Our smart green building protects the environment and saves energy as well as improves total productivity by saving operation costs and enhancing comfort in the working environment."

With years of experience and technology development in industrial control and automation, Taoyuan Plant 3 and R&D Center employs Delta's power saving and automation products and solutions in light control, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), elevator, water processing, and renewable energy based power. Every bit of the plant's power consumption data is immediately collected and displayed through the automation system's network. The data is accessed through touch control GUI (Graphics User Interface) devices around the site and on a central control video display wall for real-time monitoring. In addition, an automated software system is used to regulate lights and air conditioning automatically by monitoring the external environment, analyzing internal environment changes, and adapting to working conditions, while saving energy and facilitating a comfortable working environment at the same time. The same software also integrates real-time production information of production bases around the world for the management team's access anywhere, anytime.

The planning and design of the Taoyuan Plant 3 and R&D Center was initiated in 2009. By adopting American LEED standards, the plant is expected to receive LEED Gold-rated certification in 2012 and will also earn EEWH Gold-rated certification by Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior.
