Delta Introduces New Energy-saving LED Backlight and General LED
Lighting Modules at FPD Exhibition, Japan

Taipei, Taiwan, October 24, 2007 –Delta Electronics, Inc., announced that it has developed an advanced, energy-saving LED backlight module (BLM), which will be demonstrated at the Flat Panel Display (FPD) exhibition in Japan from October 24-26, 2007. This advanced optical product, which possesses a key patent portfolio, allows LEDs to achieve a maximum homogeneous illumination. The LED BLM features electricity saving, good heat dissipation performance, a wide gamut range, and a reduced number of LEDs.

In addition to exhibiting LED BLMs sized 32", 40", and 42", Delta is also demonstrating LED lighting for indoor use, which includes standing, reading, and wall lamps, all based on the same technology. This signals Delta's entrance into the general LED lighting market.

"Delta is pleased to cooperate with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). We have a solid foundation in the fields of BLM, key components, and lighting." said Mr. Roland Chiang, director of the CPBG Advanced Lighting Business Department at Delta Electronics. "Our cooperation with the Material and Chemical Research Laboratories of ITRI has provided a number of patents which apply to lighting. This cooperation has added the new LED BLM product to Delta's green energy product roadmap and has furthered Delta's mission in the promotion of energy-saving and environmental protection." Mr. Chiang congratulated the Material and Chemical Research Laboratories on receiving the silver label of the 2007 National Invention and Creation Award for developing a lens to achieve homogeneous illumination.

LED BLM technology can be applied to many products, ranging from small cellular phones, to large outdoor exhibition boards, as well as lighting for both interior and exterior applications. LED BLM technology has the advantages of high power efficiency, good performance in thermal dissipation and substantial reduction of power consumption. In addition, Delta has design-in capabilities for both hybrid LED BLMs and full LED BLMs for TFT-LCD TVs. Compared to traditional CCFL BLMs, hybrid LED BLMs have advantages in increasing red light purity and brightness by mixing cyan CCFLs with red LEDs, increasing the NTSC gamut by 5% and contrast ratio by 44%, and decreasing loss of light due to LCD panel color filter. The advantages of full LED BLMs include the triangular arrangement built on the PCB, which greatly reduces the number of LEDs used by 10%. Other advantages include brightness uniformity of 90%, an NTSC gamut of 100%, and a contrast ratio of 2042 (in comparison with 81% of brightness uniformity, an NTSC gamut of 69%, and 1000 contrast ratio for traditional CCFL BLMs).

Delta's general LED lighting uses 4-wavelength mixed LEDs to increase color rendering index and achieve luminance uniformity. Take the reading lamp for instance, it has customized color temperature segmentation control, which allows for light selection (from 2,800K to 6,500K), and power consumption reduction up to 75% as compared to a regular non-flickering lamp. In addition, it is mercury-free, environmentally-friendly, and durable.

Since its inception in 1971, Delta has carried out a mission of developing and manufacturing energy saving and environmentally friendly products. Mr. Bruce Cheng, the founder and chairman of Delta Electronics, is widely acknowledged for his long time devotion and advocacy of environmental protection and energy saving. During the recent award ceremony for CommonWealth Magazine's "Most Admired Company", Mr. Cheng received the Most Admired Executive award based on a poll of 842 entrepreneurs and scholars. Delta has received CommonWealth Magazine's "Most Admired Company" award for six consecutive years (2002-2007). Delta's has developed and produced environmentally-friendly and energy-saving products that include mercury-free flat lamp BLMs, PV inverters that reach 97.5% efficiency, and a III-V concentrator photovoltaic that reaches 35% efficiency.

The FPD exhibition is the world's largest flat panel display exhibition, which takes place at Yokohama between October 24 and October 26 this year. More than 330 leading global companies have joined this exhibition.
