Delta Shanghai Operations Center Receives LEED Gold Certification as Delta's 10th Certified Green Building

The Delta Shanghai Operations Center and R&D Building has recently received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) gold certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC). It is Delta's 10th certified green building since Delta launched its first green building in 2006. Compared to conventional large public structures of the same size and in the same region, the Delta Shanghai Operations Center conserves a total of 35% in energy, and saves up to 46% in water based on its LEED design.

The building utilizes many of Delta's energy-saving products and solutions, including Delta InfraSuite Datacenter Solution with an average annual PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) value of just 1.43, which meets the gold grade for a green datacenter as defined by the Green Grid (TGG). Delta's industrial automation products such as variable frequency drives for elevators and air-conditioning systems effectively minimize electricity use. At the same time, Delta's Building Energy Management System (BEMS) monitors energy consumption within the building for high-efficiency energy savings. The building has also received a LED energy-saving renovation subsidy from the Shanghai City Energy Conservation Office.

In addition to its role as an administration and operation hub, the Delta Shanghai Operations Center is also equipped with a Chinese National Accreditation Service (CNAS) certified laboratory, postdoctoral research station, and various large scale R&D units for power and electronics, displays, new energy, network communications, and more. It serves as one of Delta's key centers for power and electronics R&D and the active training of technical talent.

Over the long term, Delta has combined corporate core capabilities as well as concrete action to promote green buildings. Currently, Delta has 10 certified green buildings around the world, which include 6 plants and 4 buildings donated to academic institutions. At the same time, Delta has sponsored the Delta Cup Solar Building Design competition hosted by the Chinese Renewable Energy Society since 2007, and has also provided funds to construct award-winning projects. For example, the first prize winner in 2009 was built as the Yangjiazhen Delta Sunshine Elementary School in Mianyang, Sichuan. It was successfully launched in 2011 as the first entirely green school in the Wenchuan earthquake disaster zone. Construction for the first prize winner of 2011, the Vertical Village, has also begun on the shore of Tongli Lake in Suzhou as an exemplary low carbon emissions residence. In response to governmental energy conservation policies, the 2013 competition requested energy-saving renovation plans for existing large scale public buildings on behalf of the Qingdao Haici Hospital.

Delta has integrated industrial automation, building automation, datacenter, telecom network energy, renewable energy, displays and monitoring, electric vehicle charging, and other solutions for extensive applications in industries and fields related to green buildings and intelligent green buildings. After implementing Delta's green building technologies, Delta's Taoyuan R&D Center and Tainan Plant Phase II have recently won the 2013 Excellent Green Building award from Taiwan's Ministry of Interior. Delta was the first corporation ever to receive this distinction twice at the same time in the award's 7 year history.

LEED is an internationally recognized green building rating system launched by the US Green Building Council. The certification is awarded to buildings in which both the design and construction are sustainable.
