Delta Donates Disinfection Cabin to Support Preparation of Taiwan’s Team for Tokyo Olympics

COVID-19 has interrupted many scheduled events, and the Tokyo Olympics is certainly one of the most significantly affected. After a year of delay, the event opened on 23 July with only 950 guests invited to the opening ceremony, where epidemic prevention measures were tight. As the pandemic continued to rage, ensuring the safety of the athletes became the priority.

Delta Electronics. Inc. (‘Delta’) donated a U+ Disinfection Cabin to the National Sports Training Center (NSTC) to ensure the safety of Taiwan’s athletes so they could go full steam ahead for the competition. The disinfection cabin is Delta’s latest anti-epidemic product, which provides disinfection in just seconds without harming the human body.

On 29 June, a week after the cabin was put into use, the Sport Administration of the Ministry of Education held a joint press conference with Delta. Chih-Chang Hung, the Deputy Director-General of the Sports Administration, represented NSTC to accept the donation. Hung expressed appreciation for Delta’s support in enhancing epidemic prevention measures to protect Taiwan’s athletes. He also wished the best of luck to the athletes to achieve good results and provide a positive inspiration to Taiwanese in the looming shadow of the pandemic.

The Director-General of the Sports Administration, Shao-His Chang, said that the Olympic Games play a significant role for both the development of sports and the careers of athletes. The Tokyo Olympics, after one year of delay, finally overcame many twists and turns to become a reality. Throughout the year of waiting, the Sports Administration and the NSTC adopted corresponding prevention measures against the pandemic.

In addition to regular cleaning and disinfection, reducing human flows, rerouting traffic flows, health monitoring, and providing necessary materials for epidemic prevention, the organizations also prioritized the athletes on the vaccinations list. Chang expressed his appreciation for Delta’s efforts in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility as the company completed the donation and installed the cabin in a short period of time.

Wen-bin Li, the CEO of NSTC, was grateful for the support of the Sports Administration, which also helped in planning the epidemic prevention measures. Li thanked Delta for the donation, which leverages the latest technologies in protecting the athletes safely and conveniently.

Delta’s U+ Disinfection Cabin effectively disinfects without harming the human body. More convenient than alcohol sanitizers, the product makes the environment safer and more ideal for training. The cabin was installed at the entrance of the cafeteria in the NSTC, where meals are provided to more than a hundred athletes, coaches and staff every day. Applied to the area with the heaviest human flow, the cabin can reduce the risk of infection considerably.

Chien-ying Lei, an archer for Taiwan’s team, mentioned that the cabin “is quite convenient as it takes only 5 seconds to be disinfected. Any expected irritation caused by the ultraviolet light did not happen at all.” Lei’s teammate Chun-Heng Wei said, “Sanitizing your hands with alcohol is not enough. The cabin enables a more thorough sanitization.”

Delta’s U+ Disinfection Cabin adopts the Care222® far UV-C lamps of USHIO, which provide excellent disinfection performance with higher levels of safety. Most sterilization lamps use 254 nm UV rays, which may damage skin and cause cataracts as the rays penetrate the skin’s epidermal layer. However, the Care222® lamps adopt 222nm UV rays that achieve the same performance as the 254nm lamps but do not penetrate the skin.

When used correctly, the Care222® lamps are much safer for human health. Research has proven the effectiveness of the Care222® lamps in killing bacteria, fungi, and the COVID-19 virus. It takes only 30 second to sterilize 95% of the pathogens. Additionally, easy installation and operation make the product ideal for contactless disinfection in places bearing heavy flows of people.

Recognizing Delta as the pride of Taiwan in the field of technology, the Sports Administration said that the company has provided solid protection to the athletes, who will go on to reap the fruit of their rigorous training as another pride of Taiwan.

Since the introduction of the U+ Disinfection Cabin in May 2021, Delta has donated the product to more than ten medical institutions with positive reception, including Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Shuang Ho Hospital and Tzu Chi Hospital (as of July 2021). The product is also widely applied in buildings and factories as the installation and operation are surprisingly simple and efficient. With the application of the product still increasing, Delta continues its dedication to ending the pandemic.
