Delta Presents IoT-based Smart Green Solutions to Nurture Energy Efficiency in Cities at CIIF2019

Delta highlighted a series of integrated solutions for Smart Manufacturing, Smart Buildings and Smart Energy Infrastructure at the China International Industry Fair 2019 (CIIF 2019) from September 17th to 21st in Shanghai, China.

Ms. Shan-Shan Guo, chief brand officer of Delta Electronics and executive director of the Delta Electronics Foundation, participated in Delta's press conference held on September 18th. She indicated that building and making cities smart with low carbon emissions has become one of the most important topics for major cities around the world. With a core competence in power electronics, Delta offers solutions to nurture energy resilience in cities, including buildings, transportation, infrastructure, and manufacturing. These IoT-based solutions help to connect and collect the information of all major power consuming facilities, leading to smart, high energy efficiency, future cities.

Among all the displays, Delta's green, digital solutions for smart factories, along with an integrated solution for electronics assembly, attracted visitors' attention. Mr. Andy Liu, general manager of Delta's Industrial Automation Business Group (IABG), indicated that Delta has satisfied customer needs with software and hardware development, and integration capabilities over the years. Now, Delta is focusing on high precision, advanced automation products, integration and management software, and virtual physical solutions for smart manufacturing.

Delta's most highlighted display at CIIF 2019 included its Digital Factory Monitoring Solution, an IIoT-based factory management platform for equipment, production, and factory operation monitoring and management. The DIAStudio Integrated Engineering Software was another focus, which allows fast model selection, programming, and system configuration of Delta's control, drive and motion products. It is designed to simplify and reduce the time required for the setup process of complicated machinery systems.

During the exhibition, Delta also participated in the Future Oriented Manufacturing Summit 2019, the 2019 (15th) CIIF·MM·New Automation Forum, Global Automation & Manufacturing Summit China (GAMS2019), OEM Machine Design Summit 2019, and others to share its development and journey to smart manufacturing.

Delta's innovative automation products were also recognized by many organizations, winning several awards. The PC-Based Motion Controller AX-864E Series won the 2019 MM Smart Innovation Award by MM MaschineMarkt magazine, and the SCARA Robot DRS80LC Series was listed as one of the CEC Products of the Year Award winners. With its continuous efforts in development and integration, Delta provides more advanced automation products, software and solutions to achieve “Automation for a Changing World” for global customers.

Delta's Highlighted Displays at CIIF 2019
Digital Factory Monitoring Solution: To foster the smart manufacturing megatrend, Delta launched its new Digital Factory Monitoring Solution, an IIoT-based platform in which various Delta software systems converge to facilitate a 360-degree view for monitoring manufacturing and factory operations, such as production equipment data collection, factory facility operation and overall factory energy consumption. This cutting-edge solution of automation, digitalization and visualization was presented on a giant video wall, bringing a vivid smart factory experience to customers.

Integrated Smart Manufacturing Solutions for Electronics Assembly: With its industrial electronics know-how, Delta exhibited a total solution for electronics assembly that seamlessly integrates automation products and smart equipment for insertion, assembly, AOI, soldering, depaneling, testing and packaging via standardized communication protocols. Equipment operation and production data is collected by IoT devices and industrial switches/routers before uploading to the DIAMMP Manufacturing Management Platform and the DIAMES Manufacturing Execution System for real-time monitoring and management. The DIABCS Block Control System was also applied as a connection between equipment and the management platform with edge computing and data processing & exchange functions. The DIABCS performs block control for production lines to enhance productivity and efficiency and achieve smart, digitalized manufacturing for the electronics industry.

Robot Solutions & Robotic Simulation Platform: Robots are a key factor in flexible manufacturing, and were presented at the event with simulation software to achieve virtual physical integration. The newly presented DRASimuCAD Robotic Simulation Platform offers 3D robot workstation design functions with CAD/CAM, automatic path generation, and close-to-real operation simulation on one platform to save time for users.

With DRASimuCAD, Delta designed and showcased two robot workstations for different applications:
- Packaging Solution with SCARA Robot: Combines a SCARA robot and machine vision system for positioning instead of traditional photo-electromechanical detection to achieve precise packaging. It helps reduce manpower and enhance productivity for packaging machines.
- Glue Dispensing and Deburring with Articulated Robot: A robot workstation integrates DRASimuCAD, an articulated robot, machine vision system, automation components and development system to perform highly flexible and precise glue dispensing and deburring for shoe processing.

DIAStudio Integrated Engineering Platform: This platform is an all-in-one system designed to simplify and reduce the time required for the setup process in machinery systems. Tasks such as product selection of Delta's HMIs, PLCs, servo drives and motors, AC motor drives, as well as PLC programming, quantitative parameter setting, machine tuning and HMI integration can all be executed smoothly on the DIAStudio, bringing convenience and speeding system development for users.

Servo Press: For smart equipment, Delta launched its latest servo press along with a demo of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) pressing. The demo precisely controls the pressing path and force, and monitors and uploads pressing data to a manufacturing execution system in real-time for visualization and management. It offers high-performance, high-precision, energy-saving, and eco-friendly equipment that does not use traditional press parts.
