Delta Box Making Machine Solution Enables More Flexible Paper Box Manufacturing

Product boxes are widely encountered in our daily lives. Commonly made of paper, these boxes protect products as well as communicate a product's features and brand image. Proper packaging is a key factor in attracting and influencing customers, which is why the need for precise and flexible packaging machines is rapidly increasing among all industries. Traditional packaging involves a lot of direct labor with high error rates, low production efficiency, and poor quality. To elevate the quality and stability of paper box packaging, the box making industry has started to implement automation equipment to replace manual labor and lower labor costs to achieve more versatile mass production.

Delta has recently delivered a complete automated box making machine solution to fulfill an Italian machine maker's requirements. This customer is one of the leading manufacturers of stationery and bookbinding equipment in Italy.

Delta's automated 6-axis box making machine solution uses the Compact Modular Mid-range PLC AS300 Series and the Delta 7-inch Widescreen HMI DOP Series as master control. The AS300 Series offers a flexible network structure. Via RS-485 communication, it can connect multiple AC motor drives and servo drives & motors at the same time. With a high-speed pulse, the AS300 Series can precisely control carton sheet bending and pick-and-place. With the intuitive operation interface of the DOP Series, users can set up and control processing parameters, and switch between different box production processes easily. The solution adopts the Delta AC Servo Drive & Motor ASDA-B2 Series to control the master axis for carton sheet pick-and-place. The 0.75 kW Compact and Panel-installation AC Motor Drive VFD-L Series drives a ventilation motor to dry the glue of the boxes. The Compact Modular Mid-range PLC AS300 Series and five I/O modules control the rest of the axes to bend the carton borders into desirable shapes and sizes, achieving highly precise paper box manufacturing.

Delta integrates a series of modular programs and IA products for a suitable control system in the automated box making machine to increase manufacturing quality and efficiency. In actual application, Delta's automated box making machine solution brings the following benefits to our customers:
• Easy operation and excellent performance: With two built-in RS-485 ports, and a Mini USB, micro SD and Ethernet ports, the AS300 Series can connect servo drives & motors easily, and precisely control carton sheet bending and pick-and-place for excellent performance. In addition, with the Delta 7-inch Widescreen HMI DOP Series, users are able to adjust real-time processing parameters and select box types for automated production line changeovers. It offers agile, flexible, and versatile manufacturing.
• Fast error detection and simple maintenance: Users can monitor the box making process via the DOP Series. It displays real-time processes clearly. With simple icons and data, operators spend less time debugging to enhance maintenance efficiency.
• Flexible extension capabilities for flexible manufacturing: Delta's AS300 Series can extend 32 modules maximum, and it supports up to 8-axis control via CANopen communication and up to 6-axis via pulse control. It is suitable for flexible and customized requirements such as assembly, image capture and positioning and gluing.

Delta's automated 6-axis box making machine solution replaces traditional box making processes with automated equipment for efficient production. The solution helps customers achieve flexible manufacturing with excellent quality, and it simplifies complicated production line changeovers to ensure the best benefits for our customers.
