Delta Features Complete Smart Machine Solutions for Changing Industries at the 2018 Taiwan International Machine Tool Show

Delta, a world-class provider of industrial automation solutions, participated in the 2018 Taiwan International Machine Tool Show (TMTS) from November 7th to 11th to present a series of high-end automation and smart solutions for CNC machines and factories. Delta integrated CNC solutions, industrial robots, equipment IoT and related products to showcase its various smart machine solutions. In cooperation with machine makers, Delta featured a brand-new “2 machine tools + 1 robot workstation” demo that simulated automated machine tool processing and robot pick-and-place, which was a highlight of the booth. Delta also presented multiple complete and flexible CNC solutions with a series of advanced CNC controllers that deliver high speed, stable and reliable machining performance. The latest Delta Robotic Simulation Platform DRASimuCAD features built-in CAD/CAM functions to build models and generate work paths for automated robotic work and robot workstations. The equipment IoT solution connects smart machines, a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and a visualization monitoring platform for a complete IoT structure.

Andy Liu, general manager of Delta's Industrial Automation Business Group (IABG) indicated that Delta has developed a variety of smart industrial automation solutions based on its abundant experience in smart factories. Among them, Delta's CNC solutions integrate self-developed key components, including CNC controllers, servo drives and spindle motors, and have successfully penetrated into Taiwan and China, as well as other markets in APAC, Europe, and America. Delta CNC solutions were recently applied in processing the convex glass of vehicle rear-view mirrors and mobile phone cases, as well as by other industries to achieve highly precise control, efficient production, and smart management for customers, while saving significantly on labor requirements. At this event, Delta displayed its integration capabilities for customized smart manufacturing solutions, while strengthening the competitiveness of the local machine tool industries to meet the global trends of digitalization and smart manufacturing.

Delta presents Smart Manufacturing capabilities to international media group
The 2018 TMTS took place in Taichung—the machine tool industry capital of Taiwan. The 4-day event attracted the participation of more than 700 exhibitors. On Nov 9th, the third day of the event, 30 international media representatives from Europe, USA, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, and China visited Delta's booth. The media group was highly interested in Delta's development and achievements in the machine tool industries and smart manufacturing, and there were lively discussions between the Delta team and media representatives.

Some journalists were very impressed by Delta's advanced technology for High Flexibility Multi-tasking Smart Production Line and the “2 machine tools + 1 robot workstation” demo. The media visit helped to successfully introduce Delta and its industrial automation business to foreign audiences, while elevating Delta's international image and exposure.

Live demo simulates automated machine tool processing and robot pick-and-place
The highlight of Delta's booth at this year's TMTS was the “2 machine tools + 1 robot workstation” demo. The demo integrated with Delta's CNC Lathe and Vertical Machining Center solutions and a machine maker's equipment to simulate automated machine milling. It also adopted 6-axis Delta Articulated Robot DRV Series for 1-to-2 work piece pick-and-place. The Equipment IoT Platform DIALink in the demo collected and uploaded machine operation data to Delta's DIAVIew SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) System for real-time machining status, uptime, and robot operation data monitoring. With a connection to a cloud platform, this solution achieved equipment IoT and remote monitoring for users.

Delta's High Flexibility Multi-tasking Smart Production Line was another live demo at the booth. It integrated industrial robots, visual sensors, smart visualization monitoring software, IoT and a cloud platform to connect orders, production line, and monitoring system. The High Flexibility Multi-tasking Smart Production Line connected order processing, production line and monitoring system, and laser-engraved souvenirs, all while showing visitors “future smart manufacturing” that is highly efficient, with complete automation and digitalization. The smart production line demo inspired many visitors to fill in e-questionnaires and submit orders with their iPads. Many of the visitors that received customized gifts were impressed by how smart and flexible the solution was, and expressed great interest in cooperating with Delta.

Complete CNC Solution provides stable and reliable machining performance
Delta featured multiple complete and flexible CNC solutions with a series of advanced CNC controllers that deliver high speed, and stable and reliable machining performance when integrated with Delta's servo drives, spindle motors, and self-developed motion control network DMCNET:
CNC Controllers NC300 Series features a built-in 32bit high-speed dual CPU to enhance multitasking machining performance. With the CNC Soft software, users can develop and manage a customized interface for all types of CNC machine tools.
• Lathe Controllers NC200 Series adopts a stable and efficient embedded hardware system design. Users can preview tool paths in advance and ensure cutting stability with the Manual Pulse Generator (MPG) simulation. It is suitable for precise and high-speed machining processes.
• OPEN CNC Controller NC30E Series offers an open-structured CNC system. Based on different application needs, users can flexibly choose Delta's standard interface, or connect with customized human machine interfaces via Delta's software platform.

Hardware and software integration achieves smart machine planning and management

The latest Delta Robotic Simulation Platform DRASimuCAD featured built-in CAD/CAM functions and robot simulation as an integrated platform. Users can easily design robotic workstations without switching software, saving on the time and cost of planning and tuning automated production lines.

The Equipment IoT Solution adopted Delta Equipment IoT Platform DIALInk to collect the onsite equipment operation status and production data from CNC machine tools and PLC-controlled equipment. Matched with Ethernet switches, DIALink provided a unified interface connecting upper management systems, such as Delta's DIAMES Manufacturing Execution System and DIAMMP Manufacturing Management Platform for a complete IoT structure. DIALink provided users with a standard equipment connection and communication, as well as transparent digitalized information, to achieve efficient smart machine management.
