Purified Water, Better Energy Efficiency—Delta Delivers Total Automation for Monitoring and Management in a Wastewater Treatment Solution

Due to the large population of Mainland China, severe water pollution and lack of water resources are making wastewater treatment and water recycling issues increasingly important. Delta Industrial Automation (IA) recently provided an environmental technology company in mainland China with a complete wastewater treatment system for operational device control, central monitoring and remote monitoring during the process.

Delta's wastewater treatment solution helped to improve the company's competitiveness by effectively reducing on-site maintenance and operational costs. The solution can be categorized in three layers: an information layer, a control layer and a device layer.

•Information Layer: Collects on-site data from all field devices for end-users to easily perform instant and remote monitoring of the whole operation process. It uses Delta's DIAView Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that collects and analyzes instant equipment data via industrial PC (IPC) and industrial personal computer (PPC) for data visualization. The system assists on-site staff with central monitoring control and reduces human error. Through use of Unmanaged Switches DVS Series, RS-485 remote I/O modules and 3G routers for data transmission, key data and status of the water plant are provided to the high level DIACloud Platform for on-site staff and employees to perform remote monitoring or check historical data at all times.
•Control Layer: Delta's Slim Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) DVP Series controls on-site pump operation, using human machine interfaces (HMI) for simple set up and display of monitoring data.
•Device Layer: Effectively controls the speed of on-site water pumps via Vector Control Drives C2000 Series which can fulfill energy-saving goals and save cost.

The benefits of Delta's wastewater treatment solution are as follows:

• Assists customers in establishing a visualized system of operational device control, central monitoring and remote monitoring to satisfy both on-site and remote monitoring demands.
• Vivid data display and user-friendly interface design of real-time field device data and conditions provides effective on-site management.
• Reduces human error in operational monitoring to optimize management efficiency.
• Adopts Delta's SCADA system DIAView for effective on-site monitoring and management, with a variety of data visualization tools such as charts, reports to display conditions of operational devices, and to make adjustments accordingly.
• The DIACloud Platform allows users to receive instant monitoring data via mobiles, tablets, and other electronic devices at all times

Mainland China's Ministry of Environmental Protection estimates a huge market potential worth nearly 1.39 trillion RMB in wastewater treatment applications during its “13th-five year plan”*. Delta continues to develop and promote energy-saving wastewater treatment solutions with a focus on central and remote monitoring in the era of smart manufacturing.

* China's 13th five-year plan is formulated and adopted by China's ruling Communist Party as blueprint to set out the goals, principles and targets for China's development in the next five years, from 2016 to 2020.
