Event Review: Delta Joins SPS/IPC/Drives/Italia 2018 to Showcase Flexible Smart Manufacturing Solutions

Delta attended the SPS/IPC/Drives/Italia 2018 (SPS Parma 2018) from May 22nd to 24th at Fairgound Fiere di Parma in Parma, Italy. To help increase the competitiveness of our customers in the manufacturing industry, Delta presented a wide range of industrial automation products and smart manufacturing solutions during the event, including highlights such as the Delta SCARA Robot Glue Dispensing Workstation, EtherCAT Motion Control System with E-Cam, and the Integrated Factory Control and EtherNet/IP Solution which successfully attracted many visitors to Delta's booth.

The SPS Parma Exhibition is considered one of the most important side-exhibitions at the annual SPS/IPC/Drives/Nuremberg. It is also credited as one of the most professional exhibitions for electronic automated systems and mechanical equipment. During the 3-day exhibition, the event focuses on a series of themes that include drive systems and elements, field devices and sensor technology, motion control systems, electronic mechanical elements and related equipment, industrial communications and software, and more. This year, over 800 manufacturers and nearly 35,000 visitors, experts, and professionals joined this event from around the world.

As the industry has changed and developed rapidly in recent years, manufacturers continue to seek solutions to upgrade overall performance and achieve smart manufacturing. To meet their needs, Delta provides a wide range of industrial automation products and smart manufacturing solutions with displays that include:

• SCARA Robot Glue Dispensing Workstation: To meet the need for flexible automated production lines, Delta showcased the Glue Dispensing Workstation with the SCARA Robot DRS60L Series. The workstation begins with Delta's Machine Vision System DMV2000 Series positioning a Printed Circuit Board (aka PCB) on the conveyor. The SCARA Robot then stably performs a multi-angle tracking and glue dispensing demonstration on PCBs at high speed precision with its built-in conveyor tracking function and control of the Robot Controller with Servo Drive Integrated ASDA-MS Series. The solution not only brings benefits such as increasing production efficiency and quality, but also reduces labor costs for our customers with an individual, flexible, and multi-tasking workstation. In addition, Delta's SCARA Robot can perform a variety of complex processing techniques such as insertion, soldering, loading & unloading, inspection, and more. Also, by adopting the ASDA-MS Series' comprehensive development platform, customers are able to integrate more of Delta's industrial automation products to create a more complete, flexible, and automated robotic manufacturing solution, meeting the needs of different manufacturing applications.

• EtherCAT Motion Control System with E-Cam: For the specific need of manufacturing technologies such as flying shear and rotary knife, Delta's EtherCAT Motion Control System with E-Cam integrates multiple Delta's high-end automation products that include the Hot Swappable Mid-range PLC AH Series, AC Servo System ASDA-A2-E Series, and Linear Stage LU Series for high-precision motion control. The solution succeeds in controlling 3 servo motors with 3 gearwheels to mesh closely at high speed without jamming.

The system adopts the Hot Swappable Mid-range PLC AH Series as host controllers. By integrating one of the AH Series' motion control modules, AH10EMC Series, which supports EtherCAT Communication, and the ASDA-A2-E Series, which also supports EtherCAT. The solution performs high-precision and high-speed multi-axis motion control. The AH Series can also connect the Human Machine Interface DOP-100 Series via Ethernet for real-time equipment adjustment, while offering fast equipment integration and enhancing application flexibility. Additionally, the AH Series provides multiple modules and ISPSoft programming software that effectively helps our customers reduce programming time and procedures for complicated motion controls (e.g. flying shear or rotary knife), meeting the technical needs of packaging, woodcutting, and foil perforating machines. • Integrated Factory Control and Ethernet/IP Solution: From within a single suitcase, this solution demonstrates a remote monitoring and control system for factory production management which connects multiple Delta automation products via the fast and convenient communication protocol, Ethernet-IP. The solution uses Delta's Compact Modular Mid-range PLC AS Series to precisely control the operation and speed of the Compact Drive MS300 Series and AC Servo Motor ECMA Series. All equipment operation data is then uploaded to Delta's internet cloud service through the Industrial Ethernet Cloud Router DX-2300 Series and 3G Cloud Router DX-2100 Series, and is later shown on the Human Machine Interface DOP-100 Series. The demonstration provides a chance for our customers to experience a remote real-time equipment monitoring and management system at our booth, displaying the smart manufacturing proficiency of Delta's solution.

Delta will continue to present more innovative, flexible, and high-end industrial automation products and smart manufacturing solutions at this year's SPS/IPC/Drives Nuremberg, offering competitiveness for our customers. We look forward to meeting our global customers again at SPS/IPC/Drives Nuremberg at the end of November, 2018, and achieving “Automation for a Changing World” together.
