Delta IA Delivers Energy Efficiency to Air Handling Units for More Comfortable Indoor Environments

HVAC systems are widely used in many fields such as for residential and commercial buildings, factories, and transportation. Many companies now increasingly rely on HVAC systems to precisely control temperature and enhance manufacturing quality. Research reports indicate that an HVAC system is one of the most energy-consuming systems in a building. Corporations are now looking for energy-efficient HVAC solutions that do not compromise comfort or the lifetime of their HVAC equipment.

Delta is devoted to developing high-efficiency and energy-saving products and solutions, which it applies to its own facilities first for verification and continuous improvement. Recently, Delta adopted energy-efficient HVAC solutions for its factories in China. Among which, were Air Handling Units (AHU) that delivered outstanding performance for self-developed industrial automation solutions with more than 21% energy savings compared to the original system.

The Air Handling Unit (AHU) as part of an HVAC system is a device used to regulate and circulate air for indoor temperature and humidity adjustments. The fans in the traditional AHU system are commonly controlled by a fixed pressure controller and lock for instant feedback and adjustment based on outdoor conditions. To solve this problem and improve system efficiency, Delta applied its energy-saving solutions to the system. The products include:

Ÿ- Slim type PLC DVP-S Series
Ÿ- Fan/Pump Vector Control Drive CP2000 Series
Ÿ- High Color, high resolution human machine interface (HMI) DOP-B Series
Ÿ- Delta Smart Sensors
Ÿ- SCADA System DIAView

After adopting Delta's energy-efficient solution, the AHU system is able to automatically select summer/winter modes based on the calendar. While operating, the Delta smart sensors collect real-time air temperature and humidity. After receiving the real-time data through Ethernet, the slim type PLC compares the data with the target temperature and humidity, processes PID calculation, and delivers commands to the Fan/Pump Vector Drive, CP2000 Series for instant adjustments of the indoor air conditioning. This automatic AHU system effectively provides constant and comfort indoor environments as well as substantially improves the system efficiency for energy-savings.

Delta fulfills its corporate mission in our daily operations. In the past five years, Delta's high-efficiency products and solutions have contributed to a total savings of 14.8 billion kWh of electricity and a reduction of carbon emissions by about 7.9 Million tons of CO2e. The electricity intensity of Delta's major plants has decreased by 50% compared to 2009. Delta IA also follows the corporate mission and continues its efforts on developing outstanding and energy-efficient products and solutions to provide “Automation for a Changing World” to our customers around the world.
