【Delta21@COP21】Delta Calls for Enhanced Energy Efficiency as New Agreement on Climate Change Draws Near

Paris – December 11, 2015 – Delta Group, a global leader in power and thermal management solutions, actively participated in the COP21 UN Climate Conference held in Paris. As international climate negotiations are drawing to a close, Delta hosted a UN side conference with the theme of energy conservation. Delta and its partners such as MIT, China Renewable Energy Society, India's The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute joined together to remind the world to invest more resources in enhancing energy efficiency to control the CO2 in the atmosphere, so that the earth's temperature rises by less than 2°C.

Mr. Bruce Cheng, Delta Group founder and honorary chairman, stated, “Over forty years, Delta has worked to improve the energy efficiency of switching power supplies from 60% to over 90%. From 2010 to 2014, our products' energy-efficiency improvements have saved the world 14.8 billion kWh of electricity. The green buildings which Delta has constructed have improved their energy savings from 30% to 50% over the past ten years. Today, the new Delta Americas headquarters has even reached net zero energy consumption. In addition, the power intensity (electricity consumed per product value) of our major manufacturing plants has decreased by 50% over the past 5 years. All stand as a testament to the immense carbon emissions reduction potential of energy conservation.” Cheng also pointed out that, “If Delta can achieve this, we are sure that other companies can too. If these efforts are matched with the implementation of appropriate policies, they will prove to be crucial in the efforts to slow global warming.”

Chairman of Delta Electronics, Mr. Yancey Hai also stated that, “According to the IEA reports, the key to controlling carbon emissions is improving energy efficiency. Delta's long term R&D and innovation investments in power electronics technology ensures that our server power, telecom power, and photovoltaic inverter energy conversion efficiency rates are now the best in the world. Delta has also proactively promised to raise the energy efficiency in our factories, office buildings and data centers significantly this year, so that the group's electricity intensity will decrease by 30% before 2020.”

Delta has organized an official side conference with the theme of energy conservation during the COP21 conference in Paris, to emphasize the importance of energy conservation to each nation's representatives at the negotiations. Vice President for Research at MIT, Maria T. Zuber, Chair of the China Renewable Energy Society Shi Ding-huan, Associate Director of TERI, Shirish S. Garud and Senior Consultant of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Yang Jih-Chang, were all invited to attend this conference. They support the idea that energy conservation and improvements in energy efficiency will be the most important part of carbon emissions reductions in both developed and emerging nations after the new international climate agreement is produced. This is a direction where corporations, academic organizations, and governments should actively invest resources into the future.

During the conference, Zuber explained the “Plan for Action on Climate Change” established by the university, stating that energy conservation technology is an integral part of MIT's future development which requires immediate efforts from the government, corporations and research organizations. Chairman of the China Renewable Energy Society, Shi Ding-huan, mentioned that the enhancement and application of energy conservation technology holds a pivotal influence in improving the power consumption of China's existing architecture. However, this will require the full support of governments around the world. Dr. Garud from TERI, India, felt that while India may be able to avoid the path of “polluting first, prevention later”, this will require rapid investment and carbon funding from the rest of the world.

This international climate negotiation is scheduled to produce a document bound by international law at noon, December 12th Taiwan time, but the conference may be extended by a day or two.
